Since the launch of the world’s first EV-DO Rev. B network in January 2010, many EV-DO operators around the world have either launched or are in the process of launching their Rev. B commercial networks. Momentum is building, and soon Rev. B will be transforming the user experience of millions of EV-DO subscribers.

Rev. B is a cost-effective upgrade from Rev. A and occurs in two phases — Phase 1: Multicarrier, and Phase 2: Hardware.

The step up to Rev. B begins with a software upgrade technique called multicarrier, which aggregates up to three Rev. A channels, or carriers. By employing more channels for data, Rev. B enables higher data rates, lower latency, greater capacity and an enhanced mobile broadband experience.

The second phase of a Rev. B upgrade raises downlink peak rates to an amazingly fast 14.7 Mbps by employing the commercially available CSM6850 cell station modem. This highly optimized modem supports four carriers on a single card, lowering deployment cost for operators. Phase 2 also introduces BTS interference cancellation, which increases uplink capacity by ~65%.
